Hey friends!
Sorry it’s been a while since y’all received an update from me. My squad and I have been living in Honduras for 12 days now and it’s been so sweet. We sleep in our tents on plots we dug out of the side of a mountain. Not only are all 44 members of our squad living in our campsite but also 20 plus Hondurans that we get to work and do life with. 11 of our Honduran friends are high school students who have given up their time to come and serve with us and to improve their English, they are just the sweetest!
Here’s a day in our life:
5-5:30am Wake up because the sun has started shining through your tent rain-fly
6-6:30am Decide to actually get up off your sleeping pad and have some Jesus time before the day gets crazy.
7:30-8:30am Breakfast! Usually cereal, fruit, or my favorite pancakes!
9-12:30pm Get our work placements for the day and start working. Our jobs are usually one of four things.
1. Fix peoples camp spots (flatten/put in more supports so they don’t collapse from use and rain)
2. Work on the Church plot. We’re building it from the ground up so right now that’s pick axing, hoeing, and shoveling to create a flat place for the foundation.
3. Hiking a mile down the mountain to a coffee farm where we will cut bamboo down with machetes and then carry them back up to camp two at a time.
4. Helping in the kitchen
12:30-2pm Lunch usually something with eggs, beans and corn tortillas
2-5:30pm continue whatever jobs we had in the morning
5:30pm Showers!
6:00pm Dinner also usually something with eggs, beans, and always corn tortillas
6:30pm card games and hang out until bed
8:00pm Bed time!
