What is Sabbath? What does it mean to rest in the Lord? Where’s that line between rest and laziness? The truth is I don’t quite know the answer to all these yet but God is gently teaching me more about it every day.

Sabbath is a completely new concept for me and something I’ve only begun to experience here on the Race. It’s a day every week with no work given to us, this allows us to spend sweet time with the Lord. It looks different for everyone here on the farm, but I’ll tell you a little of what it looks like for me although it changes some from week to week.

You may be thinking “Do you only spend time with God on Sabbath?” or “If you spend time with him everyday then what’s the big deal about taking a Sabbath?” Well, I can’t answer for everyone but for me Sabbath is my date day with God. Just like with a spouse you see everyday there’s something special about having a date night. It’s putting in that effort to make each other a priority and creating that space free of distractions to just sit and be with each other or to make a fun memory.

In the last month I’ve had fun moments full of so much joy dancing with Jesus in the rain and making up songs to express the love and joy overflowing from my heart. I’ve also had moments that are quiet and still and I just enjoy his presence. I know it sounds odd but one of my favorite sabbath moments was sitting in a corn field reading through the book of John aloud and making comments aloud as I noticed things, much like a child would as the parent reads a story. It was so beautiful!

If you’ve never experienced a sabbath I would highly recommend taking one, make it a priority and just see what God has for you. I’ve experienced God so much more since I started giving him a Sabbath and I would love to see that in your life too!

If you want to talk more about it I would love to have that conversation.

Peace and joy,
