It feels like I’m living in a dream and I don’t want to wake up. Almost every day I have a moment where I wonder “I’m really living in Costa Rica, doing ministry, and experiencing this unreal community?” But it is real and while it’s amazing and I’m perfectly content, it’s hard to find words to describe what’s happening because it just feels like life. We get up each morning at 6am and have personal time with the Lord until breakfast at 7am and while I’m not a morning person it’s one of my favorite times of the day. We have a devotional time after breakfast led by our wonderful host Mr. Tony and then get busy with whatever ministry we have that day. Some days it looks like painting and repairing things here on the farm where we live. Other days it looks like spending our morning preparing a lesson for a group of kids we’ll teach that afternoon.

I love painting and serving our hosts in that way, but I have to say that Saturdays with the neighborhood kids are my favorite. We spend two hours with them teaching a bible verse and playing games to help them memorize it. The language barrier is a real thing and with masks it can be harder to read faces and get a point across, but our God is so much bigger than any challenge the enemy can throw at us! I feel so very blessed to be a part of the first missionary team to be here in a year and also so humbled that God would choose me.

This past Saturday I had a very sweet time with this one little girl, she’s 12 and, while she told me her name, my spanish is so poor I’m sure I would butcher it if I tried to type it out. She didn’t really speak english, but she understood some and was the most patient teacher. All the other kids her age were boys so after our lesson my teammates went and played soccer with them, but this girl was not the athletic type so we sat and tried to talk for the next 30 minutes or so. It was so beautiful to see how God brought random things back to me from high school spanish just when I needed them. Our conversation wasn’t deep or insightful (I can only speak at a preschool level lol) but I know that sweet girl felt loved and seen.

Looking forward to what the Lord has for me this coming week!

Love and joy,
